Gorilla Glue Founder Inspiring Boys & Girls Club With Transformational Gift
Detroit native Dan Resin provides $15 million to help revitalize city's oldest Boys & Girls Club
Local philanthropist Dan Resin, founder and former CEO of The Gorilla Glue Company, is giving back to the city where he grew up with a $15 million donation to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Southeastern Michigan.
The transformational gift will be used to revitalize the city's oldest Boys & Girls Club, located across the street from where Resin grew up. He hopes the donation will inspire other Detroit natives to give back to their community.
Resin, who now lives in California, said he was inspired to make the donation after visiting the club a few years ago and seeing the impact it was having on the lives of young people.
“I was so impressed with the work that the Boys & Girls Clubs were doing,” he said. “I knew that I wanted to do something to help them continue their mission. The club provides a safe and supportive environment where kids can learn and grow. That's something that I'm passionate about.”
The $15 million donation will be used to update the club's facilities, expand its programming, and increase its outreach to the community. The club is located in a high-crime area, and Resin hopes that the new facilities will make it a more inviting and safe place for kids to spend their time.
The Boys & Girls Clubs of Southeastern Michigan is a non-profit organization that provides after-school and summer programs to more than 10,000 young people in the Detroit area. The clubs offer a variety of programs, including homework help, mentoring, job training, and sports activities.
Resin's donation is the largest single gift in the club's history. It will allow the club to expand its reach and continue to provide vital services to the community.
“We are so grateful for Dan's generosity,” said Shawn Thomas, president and CEO of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Southeastern Michigan. “This donation will change the lives of thousands of young people in Detroit.”
