Antoine Kombouare No Broadcaster Can Compete With Canal

Antoine Kombouaré: "No broadcaster can compete with Canal+"

Nantes coach Antoine Kombouaré has hit out at the lack of competition in French football broadcasting, saying that no other broadcaster can match the quality of Canal+.

Kombouaré's comments come after Canal+ recently renewed its exclusive rights to broadcast Ligue 1 matches in France until 2024. The deal is worth a reported €1.15 billion per season, and gives Canal+ the rights to broadcast all 380 Ligue 1 matches each season, as well as the Coupe de France and Coupe de la Ligue finals.

Kombouaré said that the lack of competition in French football broadcasting is a "problem" for the league, as it means that clubs are not getting the best possible value for their TV rights.

"It's a problem for the league because it means that clubs are not getting the best possible value for their TV rights," Kombouaré said. "Canal+ is the only broadcaster that can afford to pay the kind of money that Ligue 1 clubs are demanding, and that gives them a monopoly on the market."

Kombouaré also said that the lack of competition in French football broadcasting is making it difficult for new broadcasters to enter the market.

"It's very difficult for new broadcasters to enter the market because they simply can't compete with Canal+," Kombouaré said. "Canal+ has a huge head start, and it's very difficult for anyone else to catch up."

Kombouaré's comments are likely to reignite the debate about the future of French football broadcasting. The current deal between Canal+ and Ligue 1 is due to expire in 2024, and there is speculation that other broadcasters, such as Amazon and DAZN, may be interested in bidding for the rights to broadcast the league.
