The Texas Rangers have arrested a suspect in connection with a 42-year-old cold case murder. Larry Allen West, 68, was taken into custody on Thursday, April 13, 2023, and charged with the murder of 18-year-old Carol Joyce.
West was arrested in Livingston, Texas, by the Texas Department of Public Safety. He is currently being held in the Polk County Jail, where he is awaiting a bond hearing.
According to the Texas Rangers, the case began on April 13, 1981, when Joyce was found dead in her home in Livingston. She had been stabbed multiple times, and her body was discovered by her mother.
The case remained unsolved for decades, but the Texas Rangers never gave up hope of finding Joyce's killer. In 2023, the case was reopened, and new evidence was discovered that led to West's arrest.
The Texas Rangers said that they are grateful for the help of the Livingston Police Department and the Polk County Sheriff's Office in solving this case. They also thanked the public for their support and patience during the investigation.
